Conservative treatment options are those
that avoid surgery or injection therapy. Medication management
is one of the more effective options. This refers to the
tailoring of specific drug regimens to address certain
types of pain. We rarely use “Monodrug therapy”
(the use of a single agent, usually a potent opioid like
Oxycontin, to treat a chronic pain condition.) Studies
have shown that the concomitant use of adjunctive medications
such as muscle relaxers, antidepressants, non-steroidal
anti-inflamatories, anticonvulsants and other medications
combined in carefully designed regimens can produce improved
long lasting pain relief with far fewer side effects and
better quality of life than single “pain pills”
alone. |
